- मान लो किसी गतिशील कण के समतल में स्थिर बिन्दु O,ध्रुव (pole) तथा रेखा OX,प्रारम्भिक रेखा (initial line) है।मान लो t समय पर कण की स्थिति P(r,\theta) तथा t+\delta{t} समय पर कण की स्थिति Q(r+\delta{r},\theta+\delta{\theta}) है।यहां हम देखते हैं कि गतिमान कण को O बिन्दु से मिलाने वाली रेखा OP,\delta{t} समय में \delta{\theta} कोण पर घूमती है।
अतः \delta{t} समय में कण का कोणीय विस्थापन (Angular displacement) \delta{\theta} होगा। अतः बिन्दु P का O के सापेक्ष कोणीय वेग (Angular velocity)
\lim_{\delta{t}}\rightarrow{0}\frac{\delta{\theta}}{\delta{t}}=\frac{d\theta}{dt}
